CASCADE is a new watermelon variety from South Pacific Seeds with two unique uses.
CASCADE can be used as a lower vigour rootstock variety with very good levels of tolerance to Fusarium Races 0-2, and Anthracnose Race 1.
It has slightly less vigour than our other popular rootstock, Barrier 2. CASCADE is an excellent match with the New Horizons range of seedless watermelons, or with any seedless variety requiring a little less vigour. The second use for CASCADE is as a non-harvested pollinator variety.
The exceptional disease tolerance and copious amount of flowers make it an excellent choice for pollinating a seedless crop.
Management is easier, as both the grafted seedless and the pollinator have the same root system.
Additional Cultural Notes: Very high grafting percentages due to very even stem diameters, saves labour in the nursery.
